Don't use the "No Thanks" app, use "Boycott for Peace" or "Boycat" instead

Submitted by twovests in just_post

so i've been buying "groceries" and i've been trying to follow the BDS boycotts.

the "no thanks" app seems like the most popular boycott app, but it turns out to send a lot of data to facebook and google. i can confirm with my pihole that this elicits a lot of blocked domains.

my first clue was the big blatant banner ad on the bottom of the screen. it's especially fucked up because the app store privacy card says "no data collected"

anyways, i have been using "boycott for peace" which seems way cleaner and, as far as i can tell, does not bundle advertisements.

not sure if you meant me but i'm not trying to be cynical :( there are a lot of anti-bds laws in various jurisdictions and i feel like it's worth being a bit paranoid about this

i don't know if the nothanks dev has any malicious intention other than ad revenue. but not worth it to me

nah what i think is cynical is that an app ostensibly for boycotting genocide is taking your data and selling it to facebook.
