i wanna second the recommendations for monthly girls' nozaki-kun and nichijou, those are some of my favorites.
also i haven't seen patlabor mentioned yet, and both the movie / OVA timeline and the TV timeline are very good (the tv timeline is my favorite tho).
i also really like hikaru no go, because i like go. it's basic shonen sports anime but the sport is a cool board game and not like baseball or whatever, and there are actually some authentically interesting problems and board positions in the comics and the show. the downside is that they had to rush the ending so it's not nearly as good as the manga ending.
azumanga daioh is funny and has a lot of good characterization but also a really unfortunate pedophile character played for laughs, which i did not enjoy at all. (to its credit, most of the jokes involving him are about how everyone else dislikes him, but i don't feel like he is ever condemned with any actual consequences, and i have seen instances of gross people online treating him like the audience surrogate character of the show, so i don't think the disgust of the other characters towards him was portrayed effectively enough.) so you might enjoy that one but there's that huge caveat.
