So what specifically happened with 3D is that executives, and jeffrey katzenberg specifically, saw "movie that you need special glasses to see" and thought "this would be amazing for anti-piracy!" because you can't cam rip a 3D movie. So it got pushed on moviegoers way beyond the actual demand, and got associated with rising ticket prices and a general annoyance. Instead of it being something special, a bunch of movies got after the fact 3D conversions that didn't add anything special.

We would probably still have 3D tvs if it wasn't such a botched launch, Lol

I never knew this, seems wack considering how quick digital rips hit torrent sites, but also 100% explains why there were so many bad 3D movies out there.

Every VR headset out here today will be obsolete by the time 3D movies are big again, so I'll wait a bit longer...
