metroid prime 4 stars samus aran crash land on a mysterious planet. it's clearly got some ancient alien magic on it, but it's not chozo. adam is there too, but he's getting glitchy.
together they accidentally revive the inventor of the phazon. he speaks in iambic pentameter and is a supergenius but keeps letting samus go while monologuing so he's kinda stupid i guess
samus and this guy get kind of a "batman/joker" dynamic. samus goes through roughly the usual power progression with the usual powerups. honestly, big zero mission / super / prime
but it turns out that's just 1/3rd of the game. her powerups just keep going. the end-game powerups are like from portal and "prince of persia: sands of time." by the end of the game it's nearly incomprehensible. the boss battles are like 4D chess with multiverse time travel. it's crazy
the final boss is a really disappointing quicktime event though. adam sacrifices himself to save samus. she loses her father figure AI guy :'((
