Omegle's dead. omegle.com

Submitted by anethum in just_post (edited )

on the site now is a well-written closing piece by the owner imo. go read it

mixed feelings about this. a year ago a judge argued that the abuses happening was due to the inherent design of the site, so section 230 doesn't "protect" it, which on face value i wanna agree with, but then it skirts closely to FOSTA-SESTA. which, to quote the writeup's quote, has been widely regarded as a bad move.

i don't have strong personal memories about using omegle; don't have a lot of positive experiences talking to strangers on the internet in general (love y'all). add also that i'm generally just stupid about these things in general. so i'd really like to listen to what you folks think about this.

further reading: on how algorithms in particular should be outside the section 230 "immunity"
