expired tea reviews in no particular order

Submitted by oolong in tea (edited )

  • three years expired matcha powder: i remembered it was in the back of the cupboard too late. the tin was possibly mouldy. made a cup and it was really bitter and left my mouth itchy

  • one year expired waitrose earl grey tea bags: honestly forgot about the expiration date approaching while enjoying other teas. no brightness and not flavourful but it did not try to hurt me

  • several years expired chinese walmart-brand medium roasted loose leaf tie guan yin: vacuum packed, and stored well by the uncle who gifted it to me. i thought it still had a good roasted flavour but it was so astringent

  • several years expired loose leaf tie guan yin: stored in the fridge vacuum packed. mild but pleasantly so

  • one year expired houjicha tea bags: stored in the original unsealed bag in a cupboard. slightly bitter but nothing really notable

  • one year expired mugicha tea bags: i just don't like the mild toasted flavour of mugicha so the extra bitterness after expiring did nothing but convince me i'm right to stay away

  • one year expired lipton black tea bags: we always buy a larger package than we need and don't drink it in time. neither here nor there

  • few months expired sealed bottled lemon tea: i'd still buy it expired. i don't think the quality changes here honestly

  • few months expired loose leaf genmaicha: the expiration date sneaks up on you. if the rice looks and smells fine, then there's nothing to really fear. i wouldn't risk over a year for an opened package

  • few months expired loose leaf sencha: another short time span to drink through. didn't notice much difference but i checked the leaves over a lot

  • few months expired loose leaf baisha: the co-op stopped vacuum packing so it came in like a ziploc and we double bagged it in the fridge but there was condensation. really really bitter

  • maybe not expired loose leaf longjing: sister's mother-in-law gifted it to my mom and i don't think she stored it very well. it didn't taste green and had a heavy bitter aftertaste

this is all i remember rn

edit:

  • several months expired green tea bags: another one we buy too large a package of. it doesn't get markedly worse because it wasn't super to begin with. does its job
