i'm so happy i grew up in the real golden age of gaming

  • 1800s to 1970: Arcade games sucked (and still do) because you have to feed the machine a constant stream of quarters.

  • 1970 to 1990s: Old console games sucked because the cartridges, so small, meant games had to be hard to get your moneys worth. (Imagine playing Zelda without save states or a strategy guide? And as someone in their 30s and not as an 8 year old.)

  • 1990s to modern-day-ish: Oh man. Golden age of gaming right here baybee. This is when online gaming came out. Game engines allowed indie games to flourish, but AAA games gave you so much bang for your buck too. Remember the horse armor controversy? Remember when $2.50 for horse armor yielded an outcry?

    • Remember Assassins Creed 1? Remember Metroid Prime 2? Remember Smash Bros 3 (Brawl?) Remember Halo 4? Remember V for Vendetta? That wasn't even a game, it was just a good movie
  • Modern day: The $60 price tag means less and less with regular inflation, as game production costs accelerate. Games are now subsidized by exploiting a lucrative minority: "whales". Even worse, "battlepasses" contain gameplay-impacting elements now. There are vast genres that now have no good competitive scene without P2W elements. (CCGs, MOBAs, hero shooters, arena shooters, etc.)

and now i come to You... Just Post. ....

everyone hates someone saying "The Things I Grew Up Consuming Were The Best." everyone Hates this.

so surely someone will say, "Hey. Twovests. You Horrid Person. Come Understand that you are a FOOL. Here are some GOod Games." (And then you list good games, like Splitgate, that fill the void.)
