Trans software stack: Fastmail and iwantmyname make for a great combination for managing multiple identities.

Submitted by twovests in just_post

I'm a trans person with many irons in many fires. I've got a legal birth name, my real name, and various stage names for online communities.

I use iwantmyname (domain registrar, any will do, but I like them a lot) for a custom domain name, and Fastmail (email hosting service with good domain name support).

With a domain (say jstpst.net), I'm able to send any email from xxxx@jstpst.net, or even xxxx@yyyy.jspst.net.

This costs me $5/mo for Fastmail and $17/year for the custom domain, for $77/year. (You can save $10/year on Fastmail with annual pricing, and $5 or more on domains if you go with a cheaper registrar/TLD.)

Now, why am I writing this advertisement? Because:

  1. It's kind of funny to contribute to the adspam with an advertisement-esque post.

  2. I wish someone told me this sooner!! This has made juggling identities easy peasy.
