when i look at basically any popular figure "on the left" i take pains to consider them the same way that i would any typical liberal figure, because almost uniformly they will say some headass shit and lose all credibility if not with me then with everyone else

she's said some stuff i agree with and some stuff i don't agree with but at the end of the day she's still just a person. in this awful society where celebrity culture rakes in lots of profits, we're taught to look up to famous people (and even only semi-well-known internet people) as arbiters of truth, reason, and good taste. we buy into that at our own peril.

the older i get the more "kill your idols" seems like universally applicable advice.

I mean, I think her stuff is pretty good. She has good production quality, writing, is pretty funny, and also makes pretty good points most of the time. Though "Apocalypse" was pretty egregious ("society doesn't need to change that much!").

A lot of people take issue with Aesthetic, but even as a trans girl I like it. She portrays both sides to that bit really well (though it seemed like she sided slightly more with Justine... which I can't say I dislike, lol). Some people call it truscum-y, but there really wasn't anything so problematic in it. Justine's view isn't nice, but it's just about how the world is and how trans people generally have to adapt to it. The dichotomy between reality and aesthetic definitely is a problem, and defines trans people's existence, like she said.

IDK, I might be getting something wrong.

the aesthetic potrays a wildly unhealthy and terrible view of transitioning. justine is nothing but abusive and miserable towards catty. its way more than slighty skewed towards justine, it paints catty as naive and then gives a token "maybe both sides have points" at the end to get out of criticism

" Some people call it truscum-y," it is "but there really wasn't anything so problematic in it. " there is (she literally implies all gnc trans women are white) "Justine's view isn't nice" no shit "how trans people generally have to adapt to it" adapt to it doesn't mean wallow in self pity

"which I can't say I dislike" listen, wallowing in self pity and misery feels good, but it helps no one, not even you. either learn to actually cope healthily or just don't make major videos exposing your views to young trans people. you are not the beacon or rationality and harsh truths you (or at least contra) thinks you are , you're just a miserable ass who cant keep their misery to themself.

i wasted years of my life being like you and contra, and i tried to kill myself 3 times as a result. Get help.
