I remember when online couldn't shut up about the show but I still have no idea what the appeal was. I know the premise (I think), but all the gushing never relayed what was interesting about it.

Also only now noticed that people stopped caring about it at the same time, I thought it was over.

Terrace House is a Japanese reality show kinda like early seasons of The Real World, it's a bunch of young people living in a house together and having relationships and stuff. What really sets it apart is how low-key it is, like the kids on it generally get along and drama is small but meaningful and everyone does what they can to resolve it. They date but it's not fast, like it's kind funny how long it takes them to admit that they like each other. It's extremely soothing.

The best part tho is they cut from this extremely low key stuff to this panel of comedians and tv personalities who take turns making fun of the kids and pump way out of proportion the things going on. It's like a room of drunk aunts and uncles at a family reunion. The contrast is intentional and it's really funny.

Anyway Boys & Girls in the City is the good one, Aloha State isn't as good. Here's a good overview.

yes hard agree. i had a thought the other day, although i dont know if its true: i loved those sort of noirdic noir style tv shows from like '12 and before but then netflix started like churning them out derivatives, and they are no where near as good but I think sort of destroyed the market

I liked the first series of Stranger Things, the new Black Mirror, parts of Orange is the New Black, Making a Murderer, Dirk Gently, Beats of No Nation, The Foreigner, Sense8 , Jessica Jones, the first series of Daredevil, BoJack Horseman and Voltron.

I don't think voltron is very good though, and I'm saying this as someone who is on-and-off obsessed with voltron. it is fun to watch but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say good

Sense8 is so good in some parts and so awful in others.

Jessica Jones is great! I kinda don't want them to make season 2, i don't see the point in it, the first season was like... a perfect miniseries.

You might have caught on to this, but I definitely need to mention that there's some really gross stuff in it. I mention this not in a "I liked it but.." kinda way, there's nothing I would remove, but its got really really over the top sex and violence and sexual violence and it's not for everyone lol. It legit feels illicit and it very cool things with that feeling and it's so so good.
